By looking at the poster from one of our first IAM meetings the answer would be “Everything. Starting from yous twos getting older by about 20 years. Also this vintage collection of archaic devices looks like a science museum exhibit”. All this is true and undeniable (like the absolute age, for instance) and accurate, and yet we think that something profound has changed for the better.
Curiously, since day 1 we’ve used word completion for data entry in our apps, i.e you’d enter ch, get the list of chairs and pick the right one. Can’t deny the fact that doing it on an iPhone is a bit faster than using Graffiti on a Palm Pilot. And yes everybody has got a smartphone whereas not a long time ago we were shipping Dell PDAs and Sena leather cases around the world. However, the biggest upgrade lies in our ability to cater to the modern age modus operandi - instant gratification.
Up until 2 years ago the only way to get a digital inventory or label printing meant getting a full blown inventory control system implemented. With all the licensing, setup, training and customizations one was looking at a 10k bill. It’s not the absolute amount That prevented movers at large from getting into it. It’s the time scale - with very few exceptions movers simply have not gotten the time and resources to implement a large system.
