That's my favorite scene from “Stranger than Fiction”. Thanks to the incessant stream of Zoom demos and live transcripts, my writer's block has been taken care of.

On a recent Zoom with an 18‑year‑old who’d grown up in his family’s moving company and is looking for an inventory system, I showed a simple inventory system, then the full one and the tech savvy prospect insisted on starting with it. It was time to get real:

“Are you a second‑generation mover?”
“Yes.”
“Then start with the simple Inventory and Bingo apps.”
“Why? I want the full system. It’s cool and has everything we need.”
“Because you’re 18, your dad won’t approve the setup costs, and you want to be live in a couple of days. If the crews and the warehouse handlers agree to use the apps, you can proceed to the full system.”
“You’re a good salesman!”
“Nah, I just told you the truth. We don’t have salesmen. We have 23 years of reputation of real rollouts”
